Luke 12:49-53 NKJV
“I came to send fire on the earth, and how I wish it were already kindled! But I have a baptism to be baptized with, and how distressed I am till it is accomplished! Do you suppose that I came to give peace on earth? I tell you, not at all, but rather division. For from now on five in one house will be divided: three against two, and two against three. Father will be divided against son and son against father, mother against daughter and daughter against mother, mother-in-law against her daughter-in-law and daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law.”
The second reason there is a hostility towards tongues is found in 1 Corinthians 14:39, “Therefore, brethren, desire earnestly to prophesy, and do not forbid to speak with tongues. Let all things be done decently and in order.”
Church, to my knowledge there is nowhere else in the Bible that it says this about any other gift of the Spirit. I can't find any place where it says do not forbid prophesy. Do not forbid the discerning of spirits. Do not forbid the gift of faith. Do not forbid the gifts of healings. No, I can't find any place where the Bible says that. But it specifically says, “Do not forbid to speak to speak with tongues!” Why?
I believe the Holy Spirit knew a day was coming when the church would become hostile and resist the speaking in tongues. I believe it was even beginning to happen then. I believe the Holy Spirit was warning us of a day when the church would neglect and even reject one of the amazing gifts He has given to the church.
I believe the Holy Spirit saw the schemes of the devil before he could ever perform them. You see if I was the devil, I would do everything I could to get you resistant and hostile towards tongues. When you become resistant and hostile towards something you begin to build walls up and mindsets that protect that way of thinking and believing.
Therefore, if I can get you resisting tongues, and since tongues come at the baptism of the Spirit, then I can get you resisting the baptism of the Holy Ghost. And this is where hell is fighting the church the most in this time. Listen, hell doesn't want you getting saved and right with God. But if it happens to lose that battle, then its plan is to completely neutralize you and make sure you have no power! To make sure you have no impact on anyone else! To make sure you have no anointing and no power of God to show this world that Jesus is alive and well! To make sure you have no boldness and fire as a Christian and that you blend right in with the rest of this world.
Therefore, Satan gets the church, who are the only ones who can receive this gift, to become hostile and reject this gift. All because he doesn't want them receiving the power of God on the earth! He doesn't want them having the power to live in victory! He doesn't want them having the power to overcome sin and worldly living. He doesn't want them having the power to get out of depression and oppression. He doesn't want them to be happy and full of joy. He doesn't want them free from their addictions and perversions.
He doesn't want us to be able to lay hands on the sick and they recover. He doesn't want us to be able to pray in a language he can't understand. He doesn't want us to be able to preach and witness and the captive be set free. He doesn't want us to be able to discern wolves in sheep's clothing and disrupt his plots and plans against the church. He doesn't want us carrying the glory and manifest presence of God all over the earth. He doesn't want us glorifying Jesus for all the world to see Him lifted up.
But somebody needs to tell the devil, “Too bad devil! I have some revelation now! You lost this battle when I showed up to church. I am going to get everything God has for me today!”
