Mary Did You Know?: Part 2 || Day 4

Luke‬ 1‬:26‬-41‬ NKJV‬‬‬‬‬‬

Now in the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent by God to a city of Galilee named Nazareth, to a virgin betrothed to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David. The virgin’s name was Mary. And having come in, the angel said to her, “Rejoice, highly favored one, the Lord is with you; blessed are you among women!” But when she saw him, she was troubled at his saying, and considered what manner of greeting this was. Then the angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God. And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bring forth a Son, and shall call His name Jesus. He will be great, and will be called the Son of the Highest; and the Lord God will give Him the throne of His father David. And He will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and of His kingdom there will be no end.” Then Mary said to the angel, “How can this be, since I do not know a man?” And the angel answered and said to her, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Highest will overshadow you; therefore, also, that Holy One who is to be born will be called the Son of God. Now indeed, Elizabeth your relative has also conceived a son in her old age; and this is now the sixth month for her who was called barren. For with God nothing will be impossible.” Then Mary said, “Behold the maidservant of the Lord! Let it be to me according to your word.” And the angel departed from her. Now Mary arose in those days and went into the hill country with haste, to a city of Judah, and entered the house of Zacharias and greeted Elizabeth. And it happened, when Elizabeth heard the greeting of Mary, that the babe leaped in her womb; and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit.

Mary was someone who kept herself separate unto the Lord

In Luke 1:26-27 we read, “Now in the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent by God to a city of Galilee named Nazareth, to a virgin betrothed to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David. The virgin’s name was Mary.”

One of the things that qualified Mary to be chosen by God to give birth to the Messiah is that she was a virgin. She was someone who had kept herself pure for the Lord. She has kept her vessel positioned before the Lord to be used by Him. She didn’t know God was going to use her that way. However, by keeping herself pure she was in the right position to be used by Him.

Church, right now there are so many things longing to take our affection and focus away from the Lord. There are things that want to take His place in our lives. There are things that want to compete for the thrones of our hearts. But right now, God is looking for wise virgins who will allow Him, and only Him, to have the thrones of their hearts.

In Matthew 25:1-13, we read the story of the five wise and five foolish virgins. While waiting for the bridegroom to come, the five foolish virgins ran out of oil and had no more. The five wise virgins, however, brought more oil, so they would not run out.

Church, those whom God will use to give birth to that which will shake this world will be wise virgins. These who have oil in their lamps and in their vessels. The Bible says that the wise virgins took oil in their vessels and the foolish only had oil in their lamps.

In other words, the foolish has enough oil to burn only while it is convenient. They didn’t have enough oil to burn while it was inconvenient. The wise virgins had extra oil with them for the times it was inconvenient. That means they came to church when it wasn’t convenient. They gave when it was inconvenient. They worshiped when it was inconvenient. They prayed and fasted when it was inconvenient. Mary did you know that your extra oil is needed?
